USPA RANCHO AGAVE CUP

SUNDAY POLO IS BACK

On a typical sunny and breezy Socal Sunday, we welcomed an enthusiastic group of friends, guests, and playing members to join us for a beautiful day of polo and festivities. Our announcer introduced all of the players and then the fast-paced, competitive final match began right in front of the tents. The two teams competing were Rancho Agave/AR|HO (Chris Maloney, German Coppel, Ashton Wolf, and Graham Bray) versus Casa Socas (Timur Kot, Jack Weprin, Nicolai Galindo, and Toto Socas). Ultimately the champions of the USPA Rancho Agave Cup were the home team of Rancho Agave/AR|HO, who secured a narrow win over Casa Socas.

San Diego Polo 1

The atmosphere was exactly what we’ve been cultivating at Rancho Agave for the last 3 years: enthusiastic, laidback, and, simply put, fun! 2025 is the first year we’ve played on the field at Rancho Agave, but it felt very familiar. Growing up, every summer of my childhood was spent at San Diego Polo Club in Del Mar. The smell of freshly cut grass is a core memory of mine as we’d all play on the field. Now many years later, we’ve constructed a new version of that club with many of the same faces.

As we reestablish polo in San Diego, we’re blending that nostalgic feeling of the old San Diego Polo Club and combining it with a new, fresh vibe. We’ve pulled from all of the traditional things we loved about the old San Diego Polo Club, but created something more accessible to your average player and spectator. This new era is much more about an all encompassing lifestyle, than it is about high goal, ultra competitive polo. The polo is fast, fun, and open, but it’s less about killing the other team and more about the camaraderie of the club.

We invited everyone on the field for a traditional half time divot stomp complete with flutes of champagne. All of the spectators enjoyed delicious BBQ brisket and ribs and live music after the match’s conclusion. The drinks were flowing and the vibes were just right to enjoy a beautiful Sunday gathering in Valley Center.
